About the Role

We currently have a permanent, fulltime vacancy for a Media & Public Affairs Manager to join us at our Head Office in Sydney’s CBD, reporting to the Head of Corporate Affairs.

You will have one direct report and are expected to work closely with the other functions in the Corporate Affairs team.


In the position you will:

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for media and public affairs to  improve Ausgrid’s reputation with the community and key stakeholders
  • Identify and strategically manage emerging issues and crisis communication;  respond to time-sensitive media requests 
  • Develop an annual public affairs program/pipeline of content to showcase Ausgrid’s activities to key audiences
  • Develop a key message reference which defines Ausgrid’s external narrative and response to recurring issues that can be used across the business.
  • Craft senior leader speeches, key messages and talking points and provide high level briefings

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Degree qualifications in communications or a related discipline or demonstrated, equivalent professional experience 
  • Extensive experience in media and public affairs in a medium to large organisation with demonstrated experience delivering proactive media and securing tangible results
  • Excellent contacts in traditional and emerging media
  • Experience in crisis communication and responding to high profile issues in mainstream and social media
  • Experience leading a team in a matrix style organisation including operating autonomously under pressure
  • Excellent written communication including speech writing, andpresentation skills
  • Proven experience in strategic thinking and demonstrated ability to influence and coach leaders, peers and direct reports
  • Experience responding strategically to high profile issues
